Church Ministry

Dwell equips churches to create support systems for vulnerable children and the families who love
them. We recognize the deep need for consistent and sincere love, hope, nurturing, and accountability
to help children in the foster system thrive.

ENGAGE YOUR CHURCH COMMUNITY!

Dwell partners with churches, encouraging them to step into the space of caring well
for vulnerable children and families. Churches have the opportunity to make an eternal
impact on a child and the families who open their homes through foster care. Through
a Family Advocacy Ministry (or FAM) churches demonstrate to foster, adoptive, and
kinship families that they are seen and heard. FAMS are church specific and church-led
and Dwell supports the church in that process.

Here are ways you and your church can help!

  • Collect items for Dwell care packages or the Hope Chest.

  • Invite Dwell to speak at your service or event.

  • Volunteer at a Dwell event and stay in touch through our newsletter and
    enter your contact info below.

  • Pray for our mission and ministry, the families we serve, and the children we
    fight for.

  • Give. Take up a special offering or add Dwell to your outreach mission and
budget and make a lasting impact.

'Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.' James 1:27

HAVE FOSTER FAMILIES IN YOUR CHURCH?

It takes faith, time, money, and dedication to prioritize foster families and the children
in their care. We’re grateful when a church partner feels led to make this investment.

We are partners with the Promise686 Network, and follow their curriculum to establish
what is called a Care Community. Promise686 enables Dwell’s work in Central PA so
that our mission walks into the homes of foster parents, ensuring every child has a
safe, loving, forever home in which to Dwell.

Care Communities are just one way we can serve and support families in our area.
They are typically made up of 6-8 individuals who commit to a minimum of one year
of prayer and wrap-around service to a foster family. They assist with practical needs,
providing meals, helping with household chores, and serving as child mentors to
build up foster families as they care for children in the child welfare system. Through
weekly updates, the team stays in touch with the specific needs of each family, flexing
through seasons of need, challenge, growth, and praise.

Current statistics report that more than 50% of families who are approved to foster, do so for less than one year. But those with adequate support are more likely to foster longer and stronger. Interested in starting a care community in your church? Contact us to learn more!

There is lasting tangible impact made when churches step into the space of caring for vulnerable children, and the families who love them.
