HERE ARE SOME WAYS WE SERVE:
Being in foster care is traumatic for children. Dwell wants to help foster families make birthdays extra special for their foster child. Every child deserves to know that their birthday is their special day. To start, it is our goal to empower the community to help us provide every foster child in Lycoming County, PA with a special birthday box on their special day. Help a foster child have their cake and eat it too!
PARENT CARE GROUPS
Fondly referred to as The Dwelling Place, our informal care groups are for foster and adoptive moms where the only agenda item is confidentiality. Let’s face it, this journey is beautiful but it’s also brutal. We call that “brutiful”! Come hang out with other moms who "get it".
* Although we do not have it available yet, a group for dads is in the works!
“May no gift be too small to give, nor too simple to receive, which is wrapped in thoughtfulness and tied with love.”
When an adoptive family is waiting to be chosen by birthparents, it can be an excruciating process. Many families wait years before finally getting a call, finding out they have been matched. Imagine the difference knowing they’re not alone in the waiting might make along their journey.
Do you know a waiting adoptive family who would be blessed by a care package?
Dwell would love to send a care package to a waiting adoptive family on your behalf. If you’d like to send a dwell care package to a waiting family, contact us and we will be in touch!
Through partnering with our local Children and Youth as well as local affiliate agencies, Dwell Orphan Care also puts together “New Placement Care Boxes” for foster families that have new placements. The first few months of a new foster placement is very stressful on everyone. A recent recipient told us, “getting that package in the mail that first week of getting our two teen foster kids was an unbelievable encouragement. Knowing that there were people we didn’t even know praying for us, and caring about our needs gave us what we needed to love on our foster children even more. We will forever be grateful.”
TRAUMA INFORMED TRAINING
Throughout the year, Dwell will sponsor trauma informed trainings open to foster and adoptive parents as well as educators and other adults that would benefit from training on being trauma informed.
We know the expense for a domestic or international adoption can be difficult. Many of our board members are adoptive parents themselves. Dwell would love to put adoption within reach for more families by providing grants to qualified families in need of financial assistance.
Any U.S. citizen who has an approved and current home study from a licensed and accredited adoption agency is eligible to apply for an adoption assistance grant from Dwell Orphan Care. The number of biological children or adopted children in the home does not impact eligibility. Adoption grants are awarded regardless of religion, race, age, marital status, or sexual orientation. Financial need and personal commitment to funding and completing the adoption must be demonstrated by all applicants.
* Dwell will begin accepting applications for adoption grants in 2020
